Boudoir Photography

Boudoir photography is similar to glamour photography, and everything we said there applies here. You might want to take a look at our glamour photography page, because most of those points about glamour photography apply to boudoir photography as well.

These terms are used in different ways by different people. Here’s the distinction I like best. Glamour photography is directed mainly to men and what they find attractive. The taste is mainly masculine.  Bright colors, overtly sexy poses, strong expressions on the faces. These are typical of most glamour photography.

Boudoir photography is more feminine and directed mostly to feminine tastes and attitudes. That doesn’t mean, however, that if a boudoir photograph is well done that it can’t be appreciated to a man.

It can and often does, if it’s not too boring or weak. In boudoir photography, you frequently see more muted or pastel colors, more subtle posing, more coy expressions. It’s more personal than glamour, more inner-directed than outer-directed.

A lot of times when women say they want to do something sexy, I ask if this is for your husband or boyfriend. Sometimes they say that it’s not, that it’s for themselves. To capture, to express, or even to preserve their beauty.

This is what boudoir photography is all about. It’s for the woman who wants to please herself as much as the man in her life.

In good boudoir photography, there’s often a relaxed, comfortable mood. Here is a woman being a woman, complete, feminine, and comfortable with her body and her sexuality.

Compared to glamour photographs, boudoir photographs are understated and elegant. Their may be full or partial nudity in some poses, or there may not. It all depends on how the woman wants to express herself.

The wardrobe, color, lighting, and posing are what make a good boudoir shot work. Sometimes our clients want us to go for both glamour and boudoir looks in the same session. That’s usually possible. Sometimes all it takes is changing the posing and the attitude to go from one to the other.

We can do even more when we retouch your images.

However it's done, our goal is to make the woman feel and look good and to express everything in a tasteful, artistic way she can be proud of.
